Tarot Cards are a Great Tool, But Not All Tarot Readers are Great
Tarot cards have been around for centuries, and there’s a reason why – they’re a great tool for divination! But not all tarot readers are created equal. It’s best to learn to read tarot for yourself if you’re looking for accurate readings.
Tarot cards are not BS, but there are some tarot readers that are.
Tarot cards are commonly associated with fortune-telling and guidance. However, not all tarot readers are created equal. While some tarot card readers are incredibly accurate and insightful, others are nothing more than charlatans.
Some so-called tarot readers will waste your money and time, spouting whatever comes to mind with little to no knowledge of the Tarot.
How can you tell the difference between a true tarot card reader and a fraud? Here are a few things to look for:
Red Flags to Look for in a Tarot Reading
- A true tarot reader will never guarantee that they can predict your future. They will simply offer guidance based on your current situation.
- A tarot reader should never ask you for personal information such as your full name or birth date. This information is not needed to give an accurate reading.
- A tarot reading should never make you feel scared or worried about the future. True tarot readings are meant to empower you and help you make positive choices.
- Look out for strange payment requests like cryptocurrency or gift cards or wire transfer schemes.
If you keep these things in mind, you should be able to find a tarot card reader who can give you an accurate and insightful reading. You’ll know when to get up and walk away from a con artist.
If you are unsure, the FTC put together this helpful list of things to look out for with a scammer, and you can report them from this link as well.
How do Tarot Card Readings Work?
A tarot card reading should be approached with an open mind and a willingness to suspend disbelief. They work better if you come to the reader with a focus on a certain question or answer from the cards you may seek.
However, be willing to take a top-level view of the situation and see if the cards can give you a fresh perspective.
The tarot reader should shuffle the deck, allowing the querent to cut the cards if they wish. The reader will then lay out the cards in a tarot spread, which will vary depending on the question asked. There are several different kinds of spreads you can use, like a Love Tarot Spread or Career Tarot Spread
Once the tarot cards are laid out, the tarot reader will interpret their meaning in relation to the question at hand.
It is important to remember that tarot readings are not fortune telling; rather, they are meant to provide understanding and insight into a situation.
With this in mind, tarot readings can be extremely helpful in providing clarity and direction.

How to Learn to Read Tarot Cards For Yourself
Learning tarot card meanings can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be a bit daunting at first.
There are 78 tarot cards in all, and each one has its own unique meaning. However, there are some general guidelines that can help you get started.
One helpful method is to begin by studying the Waite Tarot, which is one of the most popular decks. This deck includes all of the major arcana and minor arcana, so it’s a good starting point for understanding tarot card meanings.
If that seems like a daunting undertaking, break it down into smaller tasks. Start by learning one suit or memorizing the court cards. Tarot is full of archetypes, angst, and interesting characters. Think of it as getting to know new friends rather than looking for the hidden meaning of each card.
Another useful tip is to focus on your own awareness. As you look at each card, pay attention to your first impressions and intuitions. Doing this will help you develop your own unique understanding of the tarot. With a little practice, you’ll be reading tarot cards like a pro in no time!
A Few of Our Favorite Decks to Consider:
We are an amazon affiliate, and they have great prices on the standard decks which are great to start out with.
Etsy is another good source for unique tarot decks and I like to support independent artists but I think you should start out with a 78-card deck because once you get a handle on the Rider Waite system you will pretty much be able to pick up any deck and read it.
It’s hard to beat a classic tarot card deck like this it is the basis for many other decks:
Once you know the meanings you can indulge in delicious art indulgences like the Light Seers tarot card deck. The familiar characters of the Rider Waite tarot appear more modern and diverse.
This is not my favorite deck because I like to focus on the art, but if you are super verbal and don’t want to run around reading correspondences from a book this is a great deck for beginners to get their feet wet with.
Don’t forget to drop by our card meanings page if you get stumped or need a quick reference. But this deck would be a great one to take on vacation if you are planning to be without internet for a minute.
I have found that once you start learning tarot, one deck leads to another and there are TONS of beautiful decks on the market so enjoy shopping for just the right one.
