It’s crucial to make the most of your present life, but a past life reading can provide needed insight into the obstacles you’re facing now. After all, you carry karma from your past life into your current life, and if you didn’t work through a problem then, it’s going to keep reappearing in your path.
A tarot reading can take you anywhere in time, which sounds like a dream when the present is so drenched in monotony. That is part of what led me to search for one myself. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of running across Lena Rodriguez’s channel on YouTube, I suggest you carve out an hour or two to indulge yourself.

How I Connected For a Past Life Tarot Reading With Len
I first ran across Lena when I started indulging in political tarot readers during the dark reign of the 45th US president. Her wonderful digressions into common sense gave me many laughs when it often seemed like the whole USA had fallen into a rabbit hole and gone mad. This delightful and irreverent Aussie seems to be helping pull us back out.
Past life readings are not the subject of her YouTube channel. Instead, Lena primarily gives scarily accurate tarot readings and insightful content about world news and American Politics.
Lena relates to life under a would-be authoritarian strongman from her youth in Queensland, which at the time was really a frontier state. She began a YouTube channel so she could operate in polite society but have a semi-private place to rant. We all do what we must to take care of ourselves in the reign of the orange Yeti.
Political Tarot is a relatively new phenomenon, but it is a fun way to learn your cards and get pretty quick feedback on your narratives. I have a few people I follow and trust that I look to for guidance. They each have different cards and experiences that they bring to the interpretations, and the community of online readers seems pretty well-grounded and empathetic.
Quite honestly, the election is over. I am just a little fatigued with news and politics. I am active and engaged but sick of the political drama.
At the same time, I am feeling a little cabin feverish and would love to get out and have a road trip to New Orleans. I’d buy a nice cup of Gumbo, a cold bottle of Abita, and have a reading in Jackson square, then take a walk through an art gallery.
But since I can’t live that 3D reality yet, I decided to have some fun via Skype and contacted Lena for a past life reading.
Her process is amazing! I love my tarot cards and using my intuition, but what a relief it was to not be trying to look around the next corner. Getting a past life reading was more like trying to find the moral in the story that someone was telling you before tucking you safely in your bed.
I am a Reiki Master and a pretty good hands-on healer. I’ve also meditated to see my own or other people’s past lives before.
I know they are powerful stories that can heal us if we let them, but I don’t really know if they are soul stories, collective memory stories, or fairy tales we agree to as a tribe.
However, what I do know is that I like them. I find them helpful for insight and meditation. Not to mention, I had an awesome time watching Lena work with her tools and her intuition.
The First Past Life Tarot Reading
When Lena conducted my past life reading, she uncovered three different lives with very different narratives. However, they had some very similar themes and throughlines. This makes sense given that patterns can span across multiple lifetimes, especially if a lesson is difficult to learn.
Lena works through Skype, so I was able to record the session. Now, I am working with the recording in meditation to see If I can connect emotionally with these past lives. I am also doing some historical research on the details she shared.
Initially, Lena begins a past life reading by using a pendulum to narrow down a past life’s birth year. I asked if I had any past life connection to Costa Rica and her intuitive answer came back no, but near there.
She then used the pendulum to narrow down by century, then decade, then the individual year. Once she gathered that information, Lena determined my date of birth in that life.
The first past life she identified began in 1679, somewhere in the Carolinas or the Southern Coast of the United States. According to Lena, I started life as a butcher’s apprentice. I specifically killed a lot of hogs and HATED it.
It was unusual for the time, but I just dreamed of bigger things for myself and was not satisfied to just plod along with the future my parents had planned for me. (Lots of parallels to this life already, including the fact that while I love hogs, I avoid eating pork if possible. It makes me feel guilty because they are just so cute).
Not to mention the whole not living up to career expectations… that was a big issue in this life too.
Fortunately for me, the golden age of piracy was just beginning to dawn at the time.
In those days, it was ridiculously easy to get a job aboard a ship. In fact, this was a time of impression. Impression was the act of capturing men and forcing them to work on Navy ships. American colonists were always fair game.
An impression was one of the practices that later contributed to the unrest that led to the American Revolution.
Conditions aboard those Navy ships were brutal and the work was never-ending. The danger of life at sea was very real.
I know a thing or two about this period because I am a Navy veteran in this life, and I studied naval history.
I would bet that past life started in the Navy and led to a very bad experience because the first captain was identified with the Five of Swords. This is the card of winning at all costs.
The Five of Swords often shows people walking away from the victor, who holds multiple swords of the dead. He is seen gathering the plunder from the battle, but his compatriots are splitting up and walking away dispiritedly.
Lena felt this indicated my first captain came across as pretty vicious and a hard taskmaster.
She felt like I jumped that ship and got introduced to the very egalitarian world of pirates. While pirating was still dangerous, it was much more democratic and they were known to take on slaves, escaped Irish, and even the occasional woman.
I have to say that past life reading feels very right to my Aquarian soul.
In fact, according to a genealogical site that is researching the family history of pirates, there is archeological evidence that pirates were even developing rudimentary democracy with checks and balances. A captain was elected by vote of the crew, and the quartermaster could step in and check the captain’s power if things were being divided unfairly.
Pirates also had socialized Medicine.
According to the site, “Many groups of pirates shared in whatever they seized; pirates injured in battle might be afforded special compensation similar to medical or disability insurance. There are contemporary records that many pirates placed a portion of any captured money into a central fund that was used to compensate for the injuries sustained by the crew.”
“Lists show standardized payments of 600 pieces of eight ($156,000 in modern currency) for the loss of a leg down to 100 pieces ($26,800) for the loss of an eye. Often all of these terms were agreed upon and written down by the pirates, but these articles could also be used as incriminating proof that they were outlaws.’
Then came the Hermit card, and it showed that I had a chance to educate myself and probably learned cartography or navigation. Additionally, I was always handy with a sword. (Pig butchering would be a great primary education for a swordsman).
The King of Swords and Page of Swords both showed up in the past life reading, and Lena described me as the Errol Flynn or Johnny Depp of the Boat.
Ha, I remember my grandmother swooning over Errol Flynn in the old black-and-white moves they played in the afternoon before my grandfather came home. What a lovely memory.
If I was educating myself, it was probably in the hopes of becoming the quartermaster or Captain of my own ship.
But then the Tower tarot card falls. Lena felt like this was a raid gone wrong, and my own ship burned.
Next, the Magician tarot card comes up and I seek guidance. The soothsayer or attorney I consulted told me to get into a partnership or take the deal. This could have been a personal business deal, or it occurred during the time period when pardons were being given to Caribbean pirates to cool the situation down.
But I flip over the Four of Cups and try to do the deal on my own.
Just like in this life, the Seven of Swords pops up. Someone I trusted on land to take care of my business absconds in the middle of the night with my money. It causes me great anxiety and I pull the Three of Wands, which depicts a man considering the globe, making plans, and gazing out at a bay.
I’m thinking I took one last raid, a well-considered prize.
In the midst of all the stress, divine intervention shows up. The Ace of Pentacles hands me money from heaven, or I score a fat raid that helps me settle all my debts.
The Sun comes out in the cards, and there is joy again.
Joy is followed by the Strength card, and when I gaze at the angel who is marshaling her beastly nature, I can’t help but notice those blue mountains in the background and wonder if my former self may have finally settled near the blue mountains of Jamaica and learned to live a prosperous life without a sword.
The Hermit kept showing up. Perhaps he put pen to paper or worked in the printing trade, which would be a nice past-life reading parallel to this life….
